Academic Medical Center (AMC) Amsterdam
The immediate predecessors of the AMC were the Binnengasthuis and the Wilhelmina Gasthuis, which was also an academically-oriented hospital. The Academic Medical Center was established in 1983 when those two institutions merged with the medical faculty of the University of Amsterdam. The Emma Children's Hospital also moved into the AMC complex in 1988.The AMC is probably the most well-known hospital in the Netherlands. As one of the eight university medical centers in the Netherlands, the AMC is among the top medical centers in the world.
