Moscow = cash cow? Chinese drugs soon to find market in Russia, GBI
Release Date: 2009-09-01
China's Ministry of Health (MOH) and Russia's Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) will collaborate to promote the entrance of Chinese pharmaceutical companies into Russia's market, Medicine Economic News reported August 31.
According to the report, Russia's MOPH will standardize registration regulations for import drugs and establish a company to help Chinese pharmaceutical companies register products in Russia. Russia will also enact a preferential policy that allows Chinese medical companies to conduct acquisitions in Russia.
Import drugs dominate 90% to 95% of Russia's pharmaceutical market, and most of these are imported from Germany and India. As China becomes one of the largest manufacturers of active pharmaceutical ingredients and generic drugs, Russia intends to increase imports of cheaper drugs from China in lieu of higher priced, similar drugs from other sources.
