Special Malaysia report eagerly anticipated for publication in Pharmaceutical Executive

Release Date: 2010-11-25

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 19 November 2010 -- Focus Reports, the contract-publishing unit of Focus Communication, is currently preparing a special feature on the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Industry. The special Malaysia issue follows similar successful reports that Focus Reports has prepared in Asia, including China, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, India and the Philippines.

In anticipation of the report’s publication early next year, select interviews will be regularly posted on pharma.focusreports.net

With Asia leading the world recovery, the region’s emerging markets have become a focus for many pharmaceutical companies. However given the size of markets such as China or Indonesia, and the strong investment in R&D made by Singapore and Taiwan, Malaysia has often been overlooked. Focus Reports aims to put Malaysia on the world pharma map, highlighting the strong potential offered by the market with double-digit growth expected until 2013, well-established IP protection and world-class manufacturing standards. The Malaysia report will address how the country can take advantage of its biodiversity and herbal traditions to create a prosperous environment for biotech. The report will also examine opportunities for Malaysia to become a clinical-trial hub and a centre for medical tourism.

The Malaysia issue will be introduced by Rosnah Shirlin, Deputy Minister of Health, Tuan Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat, Secretary General Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, President of MCA, Keh Song Hock, Executive Director of PhAMA and Leonard Shatar, President of MOPI. We also met with Prof Dr Farifa Habib Shah, Chairman of MBIO and Mahaletchumy Arujanan President of MABIC to discuss Malaysia’s biotech sector. The core of the report will be centred on companies and their business strategies, portraying the comments of MNCs such as Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Sanofi Aventis, Bayer, Abbott, Nycomed, Genzyme Quintiles and Parexel among others. The report will highlight Malaysian companies such as Pharmaniaga, CCM, Y.S.P. and other industry players and healthcare providers including Invida, DKSH, and Emerging Pharma.
