Ulla Schmidt, German Ministry of Health

Ulla Schmidt is the Federal Minister for Health of Germany since November 2005. In 2001, she became Federal Minister for Health under Gerhard Schröder . A year later, the responsibility for social security was added to her portfolio and she was appointed Federal Minister for Health and Social Security.
Her political career started in 1976 when she was a candidate of the maoistic Communist league of West Germany (KBW). In 1983 she changed to the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).
