PT Kalbe Farma Tbk is Indonesia’s largest pharmaceutical firm, established in 1966. The company was founded as the Indonesian pharmaceutical industry was born, and has expanded through strategic acquisitions over its 40-year history. Kalbe has expanded into international markets and transformed itself into an integrated consumer health and nutrition enterprise. At the end of 2005 Kalbe was present in seven international markets, namely Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and South Africa. They company spends more than any other Indonesian pharmaceutical on R&D at $4.5 million and is currently running a stem cell therapeutics lab that is actively developing treatments for burn victims. Kalbe is the largest publicly-listed pharmaceutical company in Southeast Asia with over US$ 1 billion in market capitalization and revenues of over Rp 7 trillion.
