Founded in 1997 by purchasing a contract manufacturing unit in Lainate (Milan) from Parke Davis (now Pfizer Group), Cosmo is an emerging fully-integrated speciality pharmaceutical company that aims to become a global leader in the market of optimised therapies for selected gastro-intestinal diseases.
The company’s proprietary clinical development pipeline specifically addresses innovative treatments for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease, as well as for colon infections.

The company is currently developing a range of drug projects that are mostly based on its Multi Matrix MMX® technology. Cosmo's lead product Lialda™, MMX, was launched into the US market by Shire Pharmaceuticals plc on 19 March 2007.
