Beaufour IPSEN entered China in 1992. In 1997, the group invested 200 million RMB to build Beaufour IPSEN (Tianjin) Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a Sino-French joint venture in Tianjin Huayuan Hi-Tech Industry Park where it occupies a surface area of 25 000 m2.Beaufour IPSEN (Tianjin) Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. now has almost 300 employees and there are 19 offices in China. In April 2000, Beaufour IPSEN (Tianjin) Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. started the local production of smecta® - a mucous protective agent of digestive tract.
