MSD loses 11-yr trademark infringement dispute, GBI

The Beijing High Court has handed down the final judgment on an 11-year trademark infringement dispute between Tianjin Zhongxin Pharmaceutical and Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), reported www.people.com.cn. According to the report, the court ruled that Tianjin Zhongxin Pharmaceutical may register to trademark its company logo.
Tianjin Zhongxin Pharmaceutical applied to trademark its logo to the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC) in March 1998. MSD later protested the trademark application stating that it was too similar in shape to its own trademarked logo.
According to GBI SOURCE, MSD currently has over 30 registered brands in China.
