Jiangsu Hengrui begins Phase I oral hypoglycemic trials under US FDA IND app., GBI

Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine (SHA: 600276) will be conducting phase I clinical trials for the company's type II diabetes drug, a novel oral hypoglycemic compound of the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor (DPP-4 inhibitor) class, according to finance.ifeng.com. The company submitted its an IND application with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) July 15.

Hengrui Medicine has also applied for Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) recogniziton for the drug; however, the company has not applied to the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) for clinical trials in China and the drug is not currently available on the mainland.

According to SOURCE, Hengrui currently has 111 registered products in China, 88 of which are included in the national reimbursement list.
