National certification program for healthcare support workers begins pilot, GBI

he Armed Police General Hospital in Beijing has been selected as the first pilot center hospital for the training and national professional certification of healthcare support workers, www.chinanews.com.cn reported September 3. According to the report, most healthcare support staff lack basic medical and nursing knowledge.
The certificates will be granted by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, while the Chinese Association for Life Care will be responsible for the operation of routine affairs. The association will train and test the healthcare workers, and hospitals will be required to only employ certified healthcare workers.
The trial will be conducted in ten cities and will conclude by the end of 2010. After the trial, the Chinese Association for Life Care will roll out the certification program nationwide.
